If You Never Never Go, You'll Never Never Know

Launched in 1993–94 by the Northern Territory Tourist Commission, the Never-Never campaign featured popular TV personality Daryl Somers.

It landed at the tail end of the Crocodile Dundee boom - a moment when the Northern Territory had the world’s attention. For anyone living in the Top End at the time, it was quite simply a big deal.

A few years earlier, the entire Hey Hey It’s Saturday crew had come to Darwin, and I remember them visiting the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets one Thursday evening. There was a mob of people following them through the stalls - and I was one of those desperados.

Aside from John Farnham and UB40, not many stars make it this far north (besides the legends who live here). That was certainly the case in the 1990s, and to some extent it’s still true today. Which is a shame - because they’ll never never know.
