If you were a small Australian child between 1988 and 1996, Mulligrubs probably lives somewhere deep in your subconscious. Not in a nice way. In a blue, floating-face kind of way.

Aimed at pre-schoolers and filmed in Adelaide, the show ran for nearly a decade and churned out over 500 episodes. Craft, songs, gentle life lessons. Standard stuff. And then, without warning, the face.

Just eyes. Eyebrows. Nostrils. A mouth. Suspended on a flat blue void like some early desktop wallpaper that developed sentience. Played by Diana Kidd, but at the time it felt less like an actress and more like an entity that had broken through the screen.

No body. No context. Just watching you.

The theme song still echoes:

Mulligrubs me,
Mulligrubs you,
Come and be a Mulligrubs too…

Which sounds welcoming. Until you think about it. “Come and be one of us” has never been the least threatening invitation.

This design leans straight into that memory. Clean. Direct. A nod to the era when Australian kids’ television was equal parts wholesome and accidentally existential. You weren’t meant to be unsettled.

But you were.
