Darwin’s favourite Litchfield swimming hole. Open year-round, if you can brave the crowds, the wildlife, and whatever’s floating downstream.

Mertens’ water monitors keep watch over the rockholes (and your snags). Don’t feed them, but don’t try to stop them either.

My preferred activity? Staring into the shallows for hours, hunting the biggest purple spotted gudgeon. It’s low-stakes competitive relaxation.

Just don’t open your eyes underwater. Trust me.
