8DN - Part of your Life!

8DN was Darwin’s original commercial radio station, on air from 1938 and part of the city’s soundtrack for decades. It survived the bombing of Darwin, broadcast through rebuilds and cyclones, and became the voice people grew up with. By the 1980s it was at its peak — local announcers, dedications, weekend promos and that familiar AM sound humming through kitchens, workshops and utes across the Top End. Before FM took over, 8DN was simply Darwin talking to Darwin... an echo chamber of sorts, kind of like social media.
